ANALISE DO DESMATAMENTO NOS PERIODOS DE 2016 A 2020 NA MESORREGIAO SUDESTE PARAENSE

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The Amazon is the largest biodiversity reserve in the world, influencing the climate stability of Brazil and the world. In this way, the Amazon region has always been the target of extractive activities, such as the “sertão drugs” and latex extraction in the rubber cycle. Currently, the growing search for areas of crops and pastures generates great loss of green area through deforestation. Thus, the present study aims to identify the reasons and focuses of deforestation over the course of 5 years, in the municipalities of Altamira and São Félix do Xingu, which are the municipalities in Pará that have registered the highest rates of deforestation in recent years. For the methodology, bibliographic research was carried out, in addition to the collection and analysis of data related to deforested areas during the years 2016 to 2020 in the municipalities of Altamira and São Félix do Xingu. These data were obtained through the platforms Terrabrasilis, Instituto do Homem e do Meio Ambiente da Amazônia (Imazon) and Mapbiomas, to identify land use and understand the causes of deforestation in the municipalities. It was noted that in the period from 2016 to 2020, an annual deforested rate in the municipalities of Altamira and São Félix do Xingu doubled, reaching an increase of about 95%, which is a reflection of the practices of clearing the forest in recent years because of extraction of raw materials such as wood, ore, and land use through agriculture and pasture, among other factors.
