Gingival recessions are common clinical findings, with various etiologies and treatment possibilities, including root coverage, which has been described in the literature. Other materials have been proposed for this rehabilitation, such as collagen membranes of xenogeneic origin, but connective tissue still shows clinical superiority to these biomaterials. Connective tissue grafting favors blood support, promotes better healing and, even though it requires a second surgical site for removal, it is still the material of choice for root coverage treatment, with excellent predictability of results, highlighting the reason for using connective tissue grafting as the first choice. This study consists of a literature review with the aim of discussing the indications and advantages of using connective tissue grafts in root coverage procedures. It was carried out using the virtual libraries PUBMED, SCIELO, GOOGLE ACADÊMICO and MEDLINE, articles were included without language restriction and with the following descriptors: Gingival recession, Periodontal plastic surgery, Connective tissue.
