Abstract

This article constitutes a descriptive and qualitative review to deepen the understanding of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM2), being carried out through studies aimed at understanding, describing, and interpreting the elements related to treating this pathology. The defined inclusion criteria include full-text articles, freely available and published between 2013 and 2023, in Portuguese and English. The research used sources such as the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and the PubMed Unique Identifier (Pubmed). Nine articles were selected, covering various aspects of DM2 management. Among the studies, those that investigated adherence to medication treatment and the relevance of self-care standout, as well as the effective participation of health professionals, especially pharmacists. This collective research emphasizes the need for integrated approaches, which address clinical aspects and consider socioeconomic and behavioral factors, aiming to improve the management of DM2 and promote a healthier quality of life.
