THE IMPORTANCE OF PREPARING AND ANALYZING THE PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE FOR CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

Criminal profiling consists of an investigation process that outlines the personality and highlights the behavioral characteristics of legal transgressors based on crimes committed, commonly homicides and sexual crimes. In this context, it is noteworthy that the methods and techniques adopted in criminal investigation related to the aforementioned profile are also adopted at the crime scene, involving criminological, psychological, psychiatric and forensic approaches, based on the understanding that knowledge about behavior patterns is essential for adequate criminological profiles to be drawn by presenting probable characteristics of the agents, in order to favor the investigative phase of criminal prosecution. The objective of the present study was to discuss the theoretical basis that deals with the relationship between the psychological profile and criminal investigation. Specifically, we sought to address the legal apparatus guiding criminal investigation; explain the main models of criminal profiling; and explain the importance of preparing and analyzing a psychological profile for criminal investigation. The research is a bibliographic study of the literature review type with an exploratory approach. The scientific sources in electronic media (articles, magazines, annals, monographs and dissertations) were extracted from the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Google Scholar and used as theoretical foundations together with data extracted from books, laws and doctrines. The research demonstrated the importance of preparing and analyzing the psychological profile for criminal investigation during the police investigation, with a view to guiding it towards the identification of the individual who committed the criminal practice, thus contributing to the judicial outcome of numerous criminal cases. , in addition to preventively influencing the commission of future crimes.
