Abstract

Bisphosphonates help prevent bone loss and reduce the risk of fractures; these drugs are often prescribed to treat bone diseases such as osteoporosis and metastatic breast cancer that has spread to the bones. However, these medications have the potential to cause a serious side effect called osteonecrosis of the jaw, a condition that compromises the bones of the jaw and jaw. The problem to be presented in this research is: “What precautions should be taken by the dental surgeon when treating patients who use bisphosphonates? ”. Its general objective is to understand the mechanism of action of the drug and its implications for dental treatment and to address the specific objectives, namely: identifying studies that point out the management of patients who use the drug, analyzing the treatment of osteonecrosis, and the implications for quality of the patient's life and characterize safe and effective treatment protocols to provide well-being for the patient. To carry out this work, bibliographical reviews will be carried out in books, articles, magazines and research websites. Aiming at various works and studies carried out on the proposed theme, emphasizing the resolution of the problem issue and addressing the general and specific objectives in the context of this work. As a result, it appears that there is no single universal treatment protocol, but there are general guidelines that health professionals follow when addressing ONJ.
