Abstract

This article analyzes the legal treatment given by Brazilian legislation to domestic animals and their protection as living beings. He questions the bill that would define animals as subjects of rights and no longer as things. It makes considerations about the mistreatment and abandonment factors that contributed to the emergence of new, more punitive laws, and warning about animal ownership and well-being, and responsibility for the lives of animals.
