Abstract

Food advertising for children has experienced significant growth in recent years, influencing children's eating habits and contributing to the alarming increase in childhood obesity in Brazil. This phenomenon is already recognized as a serious national public health problem by the Superior Courts. Given this context, this article's main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of Brazilian legislation in protecting children against food advertising. This issue has been widely discussed within the scope of consumer law and in relation to public health, due to the growing number of cases of childhood obesity. The proposed research is based on an analysis of bibliographical sources, including Brazilian legislation, jurisprudence, books, magazines and other relevant sources on the topic. Furthermore, the selected documents were examined using the deductive method. Based on the analysis carried out, it is concluded that the Brazilian legal system has been effective, but still requires the development of additional tools to strengthen the supervision of food advertising aimed at children.
