Abstract

Viruses are infectious microorganisms that depend on host cells to reproduce and cause various diseases, ranging from common colds to serious illnesses, such as COVID-19. The pandemic, which devastated countless individuals, resulted in lasting consequences, identified as persistent post-infection sequelae. Among the frequent clinical manifestations, symptoms such as fatigue, dyspnea, chest pain, anxiety and other complications stand out. This study aims to disseminate information about the main sequelae that tend to appear after recovery from COVID-19, covering complications in the respiratory, cardiac, neurological and psychological systems. The study methodology involved a bibliographical review, with the search for scientific works in relevant databases, such as Google Scholar, Scielo and Ministry of Health, published in the period between 2021 and 2023. The results obtained highlight the significant presence of post-mortem sequelae. COVID-19, highlighting the importance of continued surveillance of individuals who have overcome the disease. It is concluded, therefore, that COVID-19 imposes a marked impact on quality of life, affecting both physical health and the social and psychological aspects of the resulting sequelae, requiring a holistic approach and constant attention to patients who have experienced it.
