This paper examines several forms of obstetric violence which include unnecessary interventions, lack of appropriate information and disregard to the wishes of the parturient. In addition, it addresses the civil responsibility of health professionals and institutions, with emphasis on the importance of ensuring the rights of the parturient and creating a respectful and humanized obstetric setting.
