The purpose of this work is to present the true role of the school, its role and its values in the formation of society. Given the flexibility of the Brazilian educational system, the following question arises: Educating for life or for the system? As it is a great guide for life and society, the school does not need to offer what the student wants, but what they will need to face everyday challenges. Therefore, the development of critical sense and the ability to dialogue, even in the face of inclement weather, is essential. The school must not fail to fulfill what is delegated to it, nor exceed in making the teaching-learning process more flexible, as this will make its students vulnerable to the system's dribbles. When we educate ourselves for life, we build society, generating expectations for a better future. If the school does not change its strategies and strengthen its skills, society will continue to be made up of an excessive number of alienated individuals who are incapable of exercising their citizenship. The high number of illiterates in Brazil raises a warning for the future and signals the urgent need for public policies in the educational sector. The time has come to minimize quantity and invest in quality!
