Caregivers of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) play a fundamental role in the social and family dynamics of these individuals' lives. Therefore, the present work presents an analysis of the care experience of caregivers of people with ASD, as well as an understanding of the mental health of these caregivers and the context in which they find themselves. Furthermore, this research also seeks to address the importance of developing the autonomy of people with ASD, considering the challenges encountered in achieving this development. In view of this, a narrative literature review was adopted as a methodology, seeking greater understanding of the experience of care in the aging process of people with ASD, as well as extensive bibliographical review research taking place on the origin of ASD, as well as the experience of this disorder in the individual's adult phase and the perspective of Psychology in this context. The current research has enabled greater and richer elucidation on the topic, at a time when the lack of clarity in autism strengthens the relevance of the continuous search for knowledge and information, especially regarding ASD in adulthood. Therefore, we conclude that it is important to develop future research that addresses the impact of early interventions, especially in learning daily living skills, that are appropriate for the ages of each person with ASD.
