Abstract

Nursing stands out in several areas of medical sciences, obstetrics is among these. The performance of obstetric nursing has a legal and scientific opinion, being supported by the Professional Practice Law of 1986, the COFEN resolutions and the Ordinances of the Ministry of Health. Since the creation of the Unified Health System, there have been protocols that encourage nursing in the area, giving autonomy to provide assistance in normal births, care for newborns, issuing AIH (Hospital Admission Authorization). Given this, the following article searches the literature for relevant information that can provide the role of nurses in the obstetric area and how they can assist their patients in situations of postpartum depression.
