The Biomedical esthete can perform several minimally invasive facial procedures. However, patient care and safety must be prioritized given the possible complications resulting from this treatment. In this sense, the objective of this narrative review is to understand the role of the biomedical aesthetician in relation to the implications and adverse effects of using injectable hyaluronic acid in facial fillers. There are a variety of adverse reactions, ranging from localized edema and ecchymosis to more serious complications, such as infections and tissue necrosis. By carefully highlighting the adverse effects associated with hyaluronic acid, this study provides a comprehensive view of the risks inherent to this aesthetic intervention. Such information is crucial to support the practice of biomedical aesthetic professionals, allowing the adoption of preventive measures and the careful selection of patients, aiming to minimize such effects and promote safe and satisfactory results. The present discussion not only contributes to the improvement of clinical practice, but also fills a gap in the current body of knowledge regarding the adverse effects of hyaluronic acid in facial procedures. Based on solid evidence, we seek to promote an informed and responsible approach in the context of biomedical aesthetics.
