Abstract

The interest in the subject arose from the author's experience in the classroom, where it was observed that writing their first name is important for children because it is the first step in forming their identity and enables them to differentiate themselves from other pupils. Children know about written language even before they enter school. Working with first names arises from the perspective that a child's name is a word that carries with it a sentimental and identity-affirming aspect. Year 1 of elementary school provides the right context and time to start literacy, starting with writing their name in a way that is meaningful to the students. Scientific reading was based on the conceptions of FERREITO AND TEBEROSKY (2001). This article will present all the work carried out in the classroom, in the school context. The daily activities and the use of methodological resources show the importance of the first name in the literacy and literacy process in the first year of elementary school.
