This article discusses the importance of play in literacy. It refers to a bibliographic study that aimed to understand how playfulness can help a child's learning. To this end, we included the contribution of some authors – Kishimoto (2003), Almeida (1998), Rosa (2003) and others. It presents the importance of playing in child development and its importance as a methodological resource. To better understand the importance of play in pedagogical practice as an initiator of student learning in the literacy process. Therefore, promote and encourage teachers to use methodological tools that facilitate the literacy process through playful activities that provide students with a more pleasurable, dynamic and meaningful learning experience.
