Autism spectrum disorder is considered a global neurodevelopmental difficulty that brings cognitive, motor and socialization limitations. The cause of autism is still unknown, some studies diverge about the possible cause being genetic, environmental, gastrointestinal and food and that autism affects more boys than girls in a 4:1 ratio, so the color that symbolizes autism is blue. It is important that the diagnosis is given in childhood through clinical, mental and behavioral observations, as it is necessary to start the pharmacological treatment andpharmacological so that the child can develop with inclusion and accessibility in school and society. Materials were evaluated in the database of Scholar, PubMed, Scielo and Capes Journals, articles and monographs on the subject of autism and greater emphasis was given to those that addressed pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care where totaled 59% of the research material chosen. Several issues about autism were taken into account, such as the Laws that guarantee the rights of people with ASD, the nutritional aspect and the difficulties with food selectivity and the importance of adequate nutrition. To treat the symptoms of autism it is necessary to start drug therapy and the drugs used for this purpose are anxiolytics, antidepressants, mood stabilizers and antipsychotics that will bring an improvement in the symptomatic picture providing a quality of life for autistics. The objective of this study is to highlight the importance of the pharmacist in the care of these patients in the correct use of medicines in order to avoid errors in therapeutic doses and to point out possible adverse reactions and interactions with other medicines and foods.
