For some time, the sociology of education has been working with categories developed by Pierre Bourdieu since his first writings about education, in which he criticizes the mechanisms of domination and reproduction found in educational systems. In a certain way, his theory has been seen in a negative sense, as if it does not leave margin for transformation. Nevertheless, Bourdieu defends that it is precisely in the revelation of the laws of reproduction that opportunities for action can be glimpsed. Therefore, the objective of this work is to reveal “principles” that Bourdieu did not develop extensively, but which are no less relevant in his work, based on the concept of “rational pedagogy” found in his research reports and texts. This study proposes to locate and understand the principles of rational pedagogy – “diversity of forms of excellence” and “multiplication of opportunities”- and analyze them with the perspectives of commentators such as Emiliano Gambarotta and Denice Catani. Little explored by Bourdieu, the rational pedagogy that he sketched denotes a close relationship between knowledge and politics, and it is this relationship that we seek to analyze in our study.
