STROKE: A COST ANALYSIS BETWEEN HOSPITALIZATION AND TREATMENT WITH THROMBOLYTICS IN THE STATE OF PARANÁ IN THE PERIOD FROM 2013 TO 2022

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke, non-specific hemorrhagic and ischemic, promotes a series of functional limitations resulting from bleeding or ischemia and is related to a high risk of morbidity and mortality. Objective: this work has the general objective of epidemiologically analyzing the costs related to hospitalizations and, solely and exclusively, to the treatment of ischemic stroke with the use of thrombolytics in the state of Paraná. Method: this is an analytical descriptive observational epidemiological study, using data obtained from DATASUS. Analysis of results and discussion: there was a predominance of males, white ethnicity, aged 60 to 79 years. The data showed a total of 106,227 hospitalizations of patients suffering from an unspecified stroke, which generated a total amount spent, over the years studied, of approximately R$ 176,514,733.29. Around 1,932 hospitalizations were treated with the use of thrombolytics, these referring only to ischemic cases, which represented, over the years studied, approximately 3.43% (6,061,711.59) of the total value of hospitalizations spent in the 10 years of the studied population. The sample had an average hospital stay of 5.5 days, with 12,535 deaths from the total number of hospitalizations, of which 231 of the deaths related to cases of ischemia were hospitalized and received therapy using thrombolytics. Final considerations: from the data obtained, it was possible to describe the epidemiology and costs of hospitalizations and procedures in the population of the state of Paraná between 2013 and 2022 with stroke.
