The teaching model in our country has gone through several phases of development over the years, and has reflected changes aimed at the historical context of society and nursing. As a result, it has presented significant changes in the profile of nurses, resulting from political economic transformations in health and education in a global context. In this sense, the practice of nurses in the area of teaching has been reconsidered, due to the need for changes in pedagogical and professional nursing training. This is a descriptive and exploratory literature review research, with the objective of addressing the importance of the professional nurse in the practice of teaching. The collection and analysis of the references did not establish a time interval, and in the methodological path 41 references were found and 14 were used. It is believed that with the elaboration of this article, through a review of the literature, with a historical cut of the teaching of Nursing, it may be serving as a reflection on the importance of the teaching nurse in the training of new professionals. Since teachers must be able to consider the singularities and needs of each student. In addition to accumulating knowledge in the specific area, they must be able to plan, organize and implement the teaching-learning process.
