Abstract

Drug intoxication has been a major public health problem, which is why there are many expenses, and, in many cases, there are also hospitalizations. Because of the use of drugs without guidance. The objective of this work is to analyze drug poisoning and the impacts it generates on public health, describing the trends observed on the problems of these impacts on human health. For the development of this research, searches were carried out with the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Drug Poisoning, Non-prescription Drugs and Self-medication. Lilacs and Web of Science and the present research corresponds to a bibliographic investigation of the integrative literature review type. Most cases of hospitalizations occurred due to the lack of health professionals in different regions and the lack of guidance from health specialists qualified to make necessary recommendations regarding dosage, side effects, adequate use and correct therapeutic adherence without self-medication. It is believed that the implementation of guidance posts with qualified professionals, for example, pharmacists, nurses and doctors, will be able to improve preventive care in the health of society, resulting in an improvement in public health and becoming a collective interest.
