With the aim of analyzing costs and yield in a small family- run dairy farm in the countryside of the town of Prudentópolis, state of Parana, this study uses an applied, descriptive-exploratory methodology, with a qualitative and quantitative, bibliographical and documental, case-study approach. We used observational techniques and ex-post-facto. Results obtained corroborate the relevance of cost control as well as a yield analysis of the dairy operation. Specifically concerning the farm under study, we verified there was a net return on activity of approximately 16.53% and a profit of 24.76% of gross income. This confirms the thesis that dairy operations are an excellent alternative for income on small tracts of family-owned farms, especially when considering the possibility of using family labor, the implementation on small areas, and the diversification of added value dairy agro-industrial products, such as in the production of cheese, “milk jam”, yogurts, etc
