Abstract

The pharmaceutical professional hás multiple roles in the healthcare field, extending far beyond the dispensing of medications. In this text, we aim to highlight the importance of pharmacists in the veterinary area. Their responsibilities encompass a wide range of essential activities within the sector. One of the main functions of the veterinary pharmacist is to work in the pharmaceutical industry, being involved in the development, production, and quality control of medications, cosmetics, and specific animal foods. The pharmacist's pharmacological monitoring is necessary in pharmacies of any nature, including veterinary pharmacies. In the veterinary field, thanks to resolution Nº. 572/13, they contribute to the production and pharmacological monitoring, resulting in a decrease in the risks of intoxication. This work was based on an exploratory/bibliographic literature research, aiming to discuss and narratively describe the role of the pharmaceutical professional in veterinary pharmacy, in a contextual and scientific manner. By analyzing their diverse activities and recognizing the importance of this specialized niche, we can aspire to a future in which animals receive the best possible pharmaceutical care, contributing to the improvement of the quality of life for all species and fostering harmony among living beings on our planet.
