This article presents a brief history of the construction of racism in Brazil, passing through Eurocentric racial theories, conceptualizing the idea of post-abolitionist whitening of the population and the denial of racism through the myth of racial democracy. This myth promotes the whitening of the population and leads to epistemicide, where the knowledge produced by black people is delegitimized and ignored. Psychology is also affected by this reality, with little scientific production on race relations. The black movement has been important in changing this reality and promoting the anti-racist struggle in psychology. Based on this proposal, the text presents the black in mental health from the Person-Centered Approach and the concepts of Carl Rogers. In addition to questioning the conditions employed by Rogers when reporting on issues that cross the self, especially with regard to minorities.
