Abstract

The purpose of this article is to investigate the easing of access to firearms in Brazil, regarding its contribution to the citizen's safety. The research seeks to contextualize the use of firearms in Brazil according to current laws, to identify the benefits and disadvantages of increased flexibility, and to analyze the reality of a country where access to firearms is facilitated. In order to carry out this study, we conducted a descriptive bibliographic review on the topic, using qualitative/quantitative methods and comparative law. We conclude by verifying the duality of flexible access to firearms in Brazil, analyzing them as instruments of violence in the hands of criminals and as instruments of citizen defense.
