Abstract

To collect information on vaginal hysterectomy and video hysterectomy, such as the number of hospitalizations for performing the procedures, costs per surgery, average hospital stay, deaths and mortality rate in Brazil in the last 5 years to seek such necessary clarification. This study is observational and cross-sectional in nature and data from the DATASUS platform, the Ministry of Health's SUS Hospital Information System, were analyzed within the period from August 2016 to July 2021. According to the results , 32,515 vaginal hysterectomies and 2,686 laparoscopic hysterectomies were performed in Brazil.  There were 18 deaths due to vaginal surgery (0.06%) and 1 death due to videolaparoscopic surgery (0.04%).  The mean length of hospital stay was 2.5 days for the vaginal route and 2.4 days for the video.  The costs per hospitalization were R$ 557.02 for the vaginal route and R$ 579.57 for the laparoscopic route.  In 2016, 3,418 vaginal and 221 video hysterectomies were performed.  In 2017, 7,504 laparoscopic vaginas and 596, in 2018 7,582 and 614 respectively.  In 2019, there were 7,579 vaginal and 736 by video.  In 2020, 4,315 vaginal and 324 laparoscopic hysterectomies and in 2021, 2,120 and 195 respectively.  Vaginal surgery was established as the main form of approach, since it presents the best therapeutic indexes.
