The occurrence of tracheal rupture in the small animal clinic is considered rare, the mechanisms of development of this condition are strictly associated with traumatic conditions. Diagnosis is mainly based on clinical evaluation associated with additional tests, given that radiography becomes indispensable in many cases, especially in severe conditions, as in addition to the possibility of measuring the size of the lesion, it becomes possible to determine the location of the rupture. The treatment can be conservative or surgical, the conduct to be used depends exclusively on the clinical evaluation of the patient linked to the complete exams that are available. However, this article reports the care of a dog, which had a vast picture of subcutaneous emphysema, when submitted to radiography, it became possible to visualize a point of injury in the trachea, confirming the diagnosis of tracheal rupture. Due to the intensification of the emphysema condition and the significant lesion demonstrated by the radiography, the patient underwent surgical treatment and obtained satisfactory therapeutic results.
