This study aimed to evaluate the pattern of antimicrobial use and prescribing among patients hospitalized at the Regional Hospital of Pombal, Paraíba, Brazil, from January to March 2026. This was an observational, descriptive, retrospective study with a quantitative approach, conducted through the analysis of medical records. Data were collected on patient characteristics, diagnoses, antimicrobials used, dosages, routes of administration, and length of hospital stay. The data were organized using Microsoft Excel and presented in tables and graphs. The results identified ceftriaxone and metronidazole among the most frequently used antimicrobials. The most common diagnoses included pneumonia and acute appendicitis, in addition to the use of antimicrobials for surgical prophylaxis. Most patients remained hospitalized for 1 to 7 days. It is concluded that the study characterized antimicrobial use at the institution, providing information to support the assessment of prescribing practices and promote the rational and safe use of these medications in the hospital setting.
