Abstract

Objective: to synthesize the scientific evidence on multiprofessional care for people with obesity, focusing on health promotion strategies, effects on quality of life and clinical outcomes, and the challenges of organizing this care in health systems. Method: integrative review conducted according to Whittemore and Knafl and reported following PRISMA 2020, with searches in PubMed/MEDLINE, the Virtual Health Library (LILACS and BDENF) and SciELO, covering publications from 2020 to 2026. Methodological quality was appraised with design-specific tools, and level of evidence with the Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt hierarchy. Results: twenty studies were included: five randomized controlled trials, one systematic review with meta-analysis, three systematic reviews of mixed designs, two analytical observational studies, eight descriptive or qualitative studies and one narrative review. Team-delivered interventions, in primary care or specialized services, produced clinically relevant weight loss sustained for up to 24 months, improvement in metabolic markers and, when assessed, in quality of life; combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists enhanced these effects. Brazilian studies, all descriptive or qualitative, showed insufficient structure, fragmented care, staff turnover, body weight as the central object of care and weight stigma. Conclusion: multiprofessional care is effective when organized in a longitudinal, coordinated and person-centered way, but its implementation in the Brazilian Unified Health System depends on stable funding, continuing education, addressing weight stigma and generating intervention evidence in the national context.
