This study aimed to analyze the role of nursing in the prevention and management of uterine atony, with an emphasis on maternal safety. This is an integrative literature review conducted through the examination of scientific publications available in health databases, including the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), and PubMed. Postpartum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide, with uterine atony being its most prevalent etiology. In this context, the results demonstrated that this condition is associated with clinical, obstetric, and care-related factors, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring and systematic patient assessment. The findings showed that nursing care, through the early identification of clinical signs and the implementation of evidence-based interventions, plays a crucial role in controlling bleeding and preventing complications. It is concluded that professional qualification, combined with the systematization of nursing care and the organization of healthcare services, contributes to improving maternal outcomes, reinforcing the strategic role of nursing in obstetric care.
