Nursing care in critical situations in obstetrics is essential to ensure safe and humanized care for pregnant women, parturients and puerperal women. Emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, eclampsia, puerperal sepsis, dystocia and uterine rupture continue to be important causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, especially in contexts of vulnerability or in services with structural limitations. In these situations, nurses play a central role in the early identification of signs of worsening, in carrying out immediate interventions and in coordination with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring continuity and comprehensive care. This study aims to review the literature on nursing performance in obstetric emergencies, identifying challenges and care strategies. The research was conducted in the databases of the Ministry of Health, Google Scholar and the Virtual Health Library (BVS), covering the period between 2018 and 2024, using the descriptors “obstetric nursing”, “obstetric emergencies” and “nursing care”. The studies analyzed highlight actions such as continuous monitoring, safe administration of medications, support for maternal and neonatal resuscitation and effective communication. It is concluded that investing in technical training, standardization of protocols and support for the mental health of professionals is essential to qualify care and improve maternal and perinatal outcomes.
