Sepsis is a time-sensitive, life-threatening clinical condition associated with a dysregulated host response to infection that may rapidly progress to multiple organ dysfunction, septic shock, and death. In the fast-paced and challenging environment of emergency and urgent care services, early recognition remains a major clinical challenge because initial signs are often subtle and nonspecific. In this scenario, nurses play a pivotal role: their sharp clinical gaze, attentive listening during triage, continuous vital sign monitoring, and timely multidisciplinary communication are critical to saving lives. This study aimed to analyze the importance of nursing professionals in the early identification of sepsis in emergency settings, highlighting screening tools, warning signs, initial interventions, and person-centered care. This is an integrative and narrative literature review based on international guidelines and recent scientific evidence. In conclusion, combining structured clinical protocols with holistic, compassionate nursing care significantly reduces time to treatment, improves clinical outcomes, and ensures patient safety.
