EDUCATION AND RACISM: CHALLENGES FOR BUILDING ANTI-RACIST PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICES IN THE SCHOOL CONTEXT

Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between education and racism, emphasizing the challenges in building anti-racist pedagogical practices in the school context. It starts from the understanding that racism affects educational processes, school relationships, learning, and student retention, especially through curricular silences, everyday discrimination, and lack of representation. The general objective is to analyze the influence of racism on educational processes and school practices. From a methodological point of view, this is a qualitative literature review based on scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, in Portuguese and freely accessible. The theoretical framework is based on discussions about structural racism, education for ethnic-racial relations, anti-racist curriculum, teacher training, whiteness, and decolonial perspectives. The results show that confronting racism in schools requires continuous action, critical teacher training, curriculum review, and the valuing of Black, Afro-Brazilian, Indigenous, and community knowledge, in order to strengthen an equitable, pluralistic education committed to transforming school relationships.
