THE IMPACT OF DIVORCE ON ADOLESCENTS AND THEIR DIFFICULTIES IN THE CLASSROOM

Abstract

This study examines the impact of parental divorce on adolescents and its effects on academic performance and classroom interactions. It is qualitative bibliographic research analyzing national and international literature in psychology, education, and law, addressing emotional, social, and pedagogical dimensions. Findings indicate that the quality of co-parenting, maintenance of affective bonds with both parents, and socio-emotional support are crucial for adolescents’ emotional adjustment and academic achievement. Furthermore, the school is emphasized as a space for support and mediation, promoting inclusive pedagogical practices, active methodologies, and interdisciplinary projects that enhance student agency. The integration of family, school, and public policies is essential to ensure holistic development, prevent negative outcomes of divorce, and strengthen socio-emotional skills. It is concluded that the joint action of these agents contributes to inclusive, healthy, and supportive learning environments, highlighting the importance of teacher training in emotional and social dimensions.
