NURSES’ ROLE IN FAVOR OF DONOR LOYALTY AND SAFE TRANSFUSIONS

Abstract

This research aims to highlight the role of nurses in retaining blood donors and ensuring safe transfusions. This is a descriptive and exploratory narrative review of the literature, conducted through searches in Google Scholar, using the descriptors “nurse”, “blood donation”, “transfusion” and “collection”, crossed with the Boolean operator AND. Articles published between 2015 and 2025, in Portuguese and with free access were included. Of the 147 studies initially found, only 6 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in depth. The results demonstrate that nurses play an essential role in the entire transfusion process, from reception to post-donation follow-up, promoting educational, technical and surveillance actions. The continuous training of these professionals, combined with humanized management strategies and awareness campaigns, is essential for strengthening public policies for hemotherapy. It is concluded that the nurse acts as a central link in donor loyalty and transfusion safety, being essential for maintaining an effective and equitable health system.
