Abstract

The management of tachyarrhythmias in the emergency department is crucial due to the life-threatening nature of these conditions. Tachyarrhythmias, such as supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, require rapid and accurate assessment. Unstable patients should immediately undergo synchronized electrical cardioversion. For stable patients, treatment varies according to the type of arrhythmia: vagal maneuvers and adenosine for supraventricular tachycardia, heart rate control with blockers for atrial fibrillation, and intravenous amiodarone for ventricular tachycardia. In cases of cardiac arrest due to ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation, immediate defibrillation is essential. In addition to acute treatment, long-term follow-up, including possible definitive interventions such as catheter ablation or ICD, is essential. This text reviews the best practices for managing these critical conditions in the emergency setting.
