INTEGRATION OF PALLIATIVE CARE PROTOCOLS INTO GENERAL CLINICAL PRACTICE: BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

The integration of palliative care protocols into general clinical practice represents a significant advance in the management of patients with serious and chronic diseases. This study aims to analyze the benefits and challenges associated with the implementation of these protocols in general clinical practice. The integrative review covers the existing literature on the impacts of palliative care on patients' quality of life, reduction of unnecessary hospitalizations and improvement in care coordination. The results indicate that the integration of palliative care can lead to a significant improvement in patients' quality of life and efficiency of care, while reducing the burden on health systems. However, implementation faces substantial challenges, including resistance from health professionals, lack of resources and difficulties in coordination between teams. Addressing these challenges is crucial to fully realize the benefits of palliative care. The conclusion emphasizes the need for continuous training for health professionals, improvement in communication and ensuring adequate resources for the effective implementation of palliative care.
