PEMPHIGUS COMPLEX: LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

The pemphigus complex is a group of autoimmune diseases characterized by the process of acantholysis, which consists of Pemphigus Foliaceus, Pemphigus Erythematosus, Pemphigus Vulgaris, Pemphigus Vegetans and Bullous Pemphigus, the latter being the rarest of the group. This class of dermatopathy is uncommon and the most commonly reported species are companion animals, more specifically dogs. These diseases have no cure, however, with correct identification and assertive treatment, it is possible to achieve control of clinical signs, providing comfort and well-being to the patient. This review aims to conduct a bibliographic survey on the disease, elucidating the etiological aspects and clinical signs of each disease included in the complex, in addition to the diagnostic and therapeutic means employed. Considering that autoimmune disorders are not common in Veterinary Medicine, the work contributes to the study and recognition of the pemphigus complex, through the description of the diseases in the group and the detailing of their particularities.
