Abstract

The present article aimed, through mapping, to identify the challenges and the demands for training in financial management among rural associations in the municipality of Gurupi, Tocantins, with the purpose of supporting the development of a training program in accounting and financial management designed to strengthen the sustainability of third-sector entities and rural entrepreneurs in Gurupi–TO. A descriptive research methodology was employed, using structured questionnaires applied to leaders of eight formally established rural associations, and data analysis was conducted through Content Analysis. The results indicated that, despite the historical resilience of these organizations, there is deep institutional fragility as well as financial vulnerability, manifested in the amateurism of management—given that 66.7% of the entities use manual control—and in the lack of professionalization, since 100% of the leaders have never participated in training processes. It was found that all active associations lack a reserve fund and that 66.7% of them demonstrate superficial governance, characterized by deficiencies in proactive oversight. Administrators perceive the lack of resources (66.7%) as the main obstacle, while the absence of technical knowledge is considered the fundamental cause of the issue. Therefore, the conclusion points to the pressing need for implementation. The urgency of implementing a Sustainability Training Program is evident, with an emphasis on transitioning to digital tools, the essential integration of Governance and Accountability modules, and continuous technical monitoring. These elements are fundamental to fostering the economic autonomy and sustainability of the Third Sector in the region.
