The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic has not only brought physical health challenges but also taken a severe emotional toll on the population. Anxiety, depression, and other disorders have intensified, and, as a consequence, the use of psychotropic medications has increased significantly in Brazil. Medications such as benzodiazepines and antidepressants have proven essential for treating these comorbidities, but their use without proper guidance has increased the risks of dependence, self-medication, and adverse effects. Given this scenario, this study aims to understand the impacts of the pandemic on mental health and reflect on the pharmacist's role in ensuring the rational use of these medications. Through a narrative literature review, we highlighted the importance of pharmaceutical work not only in guidance and pharmacovigilance, but also in providing a humanized welcome, strengthening bonds and contributing to safer and more comprehensive care.
