Abstract

The overall objective of this research was to analyze the contribution of microcredit to the socioeconomic development of the Mecúfi district, in Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique, between 2022 and 2024. Methodologically, a qualitative and quantitative analysis approach was adopted to understand both subjective aspects (analysis of perceptions/experiences of those involved) and objective aspects (static data and socioeconomic indicators). The results demonstrate that microcredit played a significant role in the dynamism of the local economy and that, although microcredit is not a definitive solution to the economic challenges faced by the population of Mecúfi, it represents an effective tool for productive inclusion and encouraging local entrepreneurship. It is recommended that microcredit programs be accompanied by ongoing training, monitoring, and technical support for beneficiaries. The study also identified limitations, such as a lack of financial management training, difficulties in repaying loans, and access barriers for the most disadvantaged groups.
