Higher education institutions are characterized by a high flow of people, making it imperative to train staff in Basic Life Support (BLS) to ensure an adequate response to emergencies. This study aimed to analyze the scientific evidence on BLS training strategies for higher education staff. An integrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS databases, including articles published between 2020 and 2025. A total of 38 studies were analyzed. The findings demonstrated the efficacy of active methodologies, realistic simulations, and hands-on approaches in training laypeople. Prior diagnostic assessment proved to be fundamental for tailoring the instruction. Identified barriers included initial resistance and anxiety, which were overcome through directed repetition and a safe learning environment. BLS training is an essential strategy for institutional safety, requiring continuous and tailored approaches based on the staff's profile.
