Medical training after the age of 40 and the perspective of a nurse pursuing a second degree. This article aims to report the experience of a student undertaking a second academic degree at over 40 years of age, in the current context of medical education. This phenomenon has become increasingly common, with nursing and several other health professions seeking medical training. This trend has been growing over the years and influencing the academic profile of new physicians.Methodologically, this study is characterized as a narrative experience report, framed within a qualitative approach, as it provides a detailed description of the author’s personal trajectory during his second medical degree, which began after the age of 43. Data collection was based on continuous reflective recording, including field notes, an academic diary, and the author’s recollections of significant situations experienced during the training. The author’s empiricist and inductivist perspective maintains that sensible experience constitutes the primary foundation for the formulation of scientific hypotheses and theories (GROLLMUS; TARRES, 2023).The objective was to analyze the challenges, motivations, and learning experiences acquired throughout the academic journey, as well as to reflect on the influence of this experience on professional development and on the perspective of patient care (ALMEIDA et al., 2021).
