Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contributions of podiatrists to comprehensive care within the Unified Health System (SUS), with an emphasis on their integration into multidisciplinary teams. This is qualitative research, developed through a literature review, with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of academic works published in scientific journals, conference proceedings, and specialized books. The methodology adopted included the selection of materials available in national and international databases, focusing primarily on the last ten years, focusing on podiatrists' competencies, their preventive and therapeutic actions, and the relationship of this practice with the principles of the SUS, especially comprehensiveness, universality, and equity. The theoretical framework was based on studies addressing the clinical practice of podiatry in primary care, its interface with other health specialties, and its role in the prevention and treatment of conditions such as diabetic foot, fungal infections, and venous ulcers. The results showed that the presence of podiatrists contributes significantly to increasing the resolution of health services, reducing preventable complications, strengthening health education, and improving the quality of life of users. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that the effective integration of these professionals into public health teams still faces institutional barriers, such as the lack of clear regulations, a shortage of specific policies, and an insufficient number of professionals working within the network. It is concluded that the valorization of podiatry within the SUS is essential to ensure comprehensive, preventive, and humanized care practices, and that its consolidation depends on structural actions aimed at the training, recognition, and systematic incorporation of these professionals into public health policies.
