Turnover is a phenomenon that affects organizations worldwide and is influenced by several factors, including cultural aspects. This study aims to analyze the impact of turnover in different cultures, identifying determining factors and organizational strategies to minimize its effects. The research adopts a bibliographic approach, conducting a literature review of articles published in the SciELO database, using the keyword combination "Turnover AND culture". Studies published in the last ten years (2014-2024), in Portuguese, English and Spanish, that address the relationship between employee turnover and organizational or national culture were selected. The justification for this research lies in the importance of understanding how different cultural values influence employees' decisions to stay or leave an organization. Factors such as individualism versus collectivism, organizational hierarchy and job security vary across cultures and directly impact turnover rates. Furthermore, global organizations face challenges when adapting retention strategies in multicultural contexts. It is concluded that turnover is a multifaceted phenomenon, directly influenced by historical, social, economic and, above all, cultural factors. The analysis demonstrated that the roots of turnover date back to the Industrial Revolution and the evolution of labor relations in Brazil, including the creation of the CLT, unions and the “S” System. It was evident that organizational and national cultures significantly influence turnover rates, with emphasis on the differences between individualistic and collectivist cultures. Comparative data between sectors and countries reinforce that turnover is more intense in operational functions and contexts of lower professional appreciation. In view of this, effective retention strategies should consider cultural, generational and structural factors, prioritizing healthy work environments, valuing human capital and alignment between the values of the organization and its employees.
