Introduction: Postpartum depression is a mental health condition that can occur after the birth of a baby, characterized by overwhelming feelings of sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion that interfere with the mother's ability to care for herself and her child. Early detection of postpartum depression can mitigate its potentially debilitating effects through effective and timely interventions, since, when left untreated, postpartum depression can have implications not only for the mother's well-being, but also for the baby's emotional and cognitive development. Objective: To analyze the importance of early diagnosis of postpartum depression and the impact of nursing actions in the management and support of mothers in the postnatal period. Methodology: This article is characterized as a bibliographic review with a qualitative approach. Analysis and discussion of results: After reading the selected articles, three thematic categories emerged: screening and early identification of postpartum depression, nursing interventions in emotional support for the postpartum woman, and continuous care and postnatal monitoring. These categories reflect the main approaches discussed in the studies analyzed and allow for a structured understanding of the role of nursing in early detection and effective care for women affected by this condition in the postpartum period. Conclusion: Through the analysis of the studies and practices discussed, it was possible to conclude that nursing interventions are fundamental in the early detection of postpartum depression and in continuous support for the postpartum woman, providing comprehensive care and ensuring that women receive the necessary support to face the challenges of this phase.
