Abstract

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a pathological process responsible for the accumulation of atherosclerotic plaques in the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart: the coronary arteries. When this accumulation impedes the passage of blood (totally or partially), cardiac ischemia occurs, which is the deficit of blood supply to the heart. The objective of this research was to classify the coronary risk among students of the Veterinary Medicine course at a Private Higher Education Institution in the city of Uberlândia - MG. The Michigan Heart Association test was used for data collection, which evaluates items related to several factors involved in the emergence of cardiovascular diseases, such as heredity, eating habits and physical activity, among others. No difference was found between the sexes when comparing coronary risk, but a significant difference was found between daytime and nighttime periods, with the nighttime period presenting a higher coronary risk when compared to daytime. It is concluded that the students evaluated were classified in the “no risk” category for the development of coronary disease.
