Abstract

With globalization, human consumption has been growing more and more, resulting in a significant increase in the amount of products discarded daily, generating numerous impacts on the environment and society in general. Every day, tons of waste are generated due to processes arising from human activities, where organizations have a great participation in the generation of this waste, and therefore, they play a fundamental role in these processes. Therefore, the present work has the general objective of analyzing the implementation of solid waste management programs in the companies studied, aiming to elaborate a proposal for improvement in their management, with the specific objective of carrying out a diagnosis of the solid waste management of the companies. analyzed, identifying the profile of waste handlers and highlighting the main challenges faced by these organizations in the management of this waste. The research is classified as exploratory, with the use of bibliographic sources and primary data collection through questionnaires applied to the companies' employees. The research results showed that the companies studied have waste management plans, however these plans are unable to carry out in practice the efficient treatment of all waste generated from their production processes, the inefficiencies of these plans happen mainly due to the lack of a environmental education policy that includes all employees of the companies studied, thus, there is a need to develop a collective environmental awareness through the application of training for all employees, with the aim of improving the practices of handling and disposal of waste generated in your organizational environment.
