DRESS SYNDROME WITH SEVERE ACUTE HEPATITIS IN A YOUNG PATIENT

Abstract

Drug Reaction Syndrome with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) or Drug-Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome, as it is also known, is a serious drug reaction with cutaneous and multiple organ involvement. Clinically, it is characterized by a generalized morbilliform rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, hematological changes and multiorgan involvement. This syndrome has a high mortality rate (10%), associated with fulminant hepatitis with hepatic necrosis. An early diagnosis and immediate suspension of the attributable drug(s) becomes imperative. This case report is about a Dress Syndrome in a young patient, with the presence of severe drug-induced hepatitis with a mixed cholestatic/hepatocellular pattern.
