NURSING CARE FOR POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION WITHIN THE FAMILY HEALTH STRATEGY: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

Postpartum depression is a public health issue that directly impacts both the new mother’s self-perception and the mother-infant bond. The objective of this study is to analyze nurses’ understanding of postpartum depression within the Family Health Program (FHP). This is an integrative review, with a search of scientific databases, including articles published between 2016 and 2026. The results show that ESF nurses play a very important role in the early detection of postpartum depression; however, barriers such as a lack of knowledge on the subject and a lack of management support negatively impact care for postpartum women. It is concluded that ongoing training of nurses in maternal mental health, combined with active screening of pregnant women at risk for PPD, is crucial for providing adequate care and reducing psychological harm related to the postpartum period in women.
