ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE OF PATIENTS WHO HAD UNDERGONE ONCOLOGIC TREATMENT IN THE HEAD AND NECK REGION

Abstract

Objective: This epidemiological and cross-section study was developed to evaluated the quality of life (QOL) of patients that received cancer treatment in the head and neck. Methods: 74 patients participated this study and all of those  were submitted a had and neck cancer treatment at the Regional do Oeste Hospital in Chapecó city, Santa Catarina State, during the period between 2013 and 2015 and that fit the following inclusion criteria: diagnosis of head and neck cancer; older than 18 years and have carried out the treatment over 06 months. Data were collected using the WHOQOL-Bref questionnaire, from OMS, validated for the Portuguese language and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The QOL questionnaire data were scored according to predefined own criteria, in accordance with its own syntax. The Descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation test (α = 0.05) and analysis Pearson were used to analyze the data. Results: Significant correlations were found between sociodemographic data and cancer (p <0.05). The WHOQOL Bref showed good average in all areas, physical, psychological, social relationships and environment, ranging between 60.4% and 72.4%. Conclusion: The evaluation of QOL is indispensable, since one can’t think of increasing the survival of patients without that it has a minimum QOL.
